(AP) South Dakota’s U.S. Sens. John Thune and Mike Rounds say the selection process for the state’s representatives to the annual U.S. Senate Youth Program is now open. Two South Dakota high school juniors or seniors will be chosen to be among the 104 delegates two from each state, the District of Columbia and the Department of Defense Activity to travel to the nation’s capital in March to participate in the program. Interested South Dakota students can apply through Sept. 23. The program aims to teach students about the American political process and inspire a lifelong commitment to public service. Each student delegate also gets a $10,000 undergraduate college scholarship. Thune says the program gives students access to leaders who help run the government. ___
